Three businesses, one screen each. What it is, what it makes, what they want for it, and what we'd worry about.

SaaS

Chrome extension for Notion power users

Revenue/yr
$37K
Profit/yr
$33K
Multiple
2.9×
Asking
$97K

Our take: One founder, Next.js and Supabase, about four hours a week. Everyone is on annual plans, so churn will not show up for twelve months. Ask for cohort retention before you wire anything.

Newsletter

Weekly for Figma plugin developers

Revenue/yr
$22K
Profit/yr
$21K
Multiple
2.1×
Asking
$44K

Our take: 9,400 subscribers, nine sponsors, none of them more than 15% of revenue. The seller writes every issue, so you are buying a job unless you can find a writer for under $800 an issue.

Ecom

Shopify store selling keyboard keycaps

Revenue/yr
$96K
Profit/yr
$28K
Multiple
2.1×
Asking
$59K

Our take: Margins are thin and $14K of the ask is inventory sitting in a garage. The supplier relationship is the real asset. Negotiate the stock as a separate line.

Who it's for

For people who'd rather buy than build

  • Engineers

You can ship in a weekend. What you can't do is spend two years finding out whether anyone wants it. Buy something that already has users.

  • Anyone with a day job

Savings doing nothing and maybe ten hours a week. That's enough to own something that pays you every month.

  • Portfolio builders

You already run one. The second is easier than the first, and it shares a stack, a mailing list, or an audience with what you've got.

How we vet

Why these three

A few hundred listings go up every fortnight. Almost all of them are bad. Here's what happens to the ones that aren't.

  1. 01

    Pull everything

Every new listing on the public marketplaces, plus whatever lands in our inbox from sellers going direct. A few hundred a fortnight, filtered down to three.

  2. 02

    Check the numbers

Stripe and analytics screenshots, not spreadsheets. We recompute profit after the seller's add-backs and flag anything that only works if you don't pay yourself.

  3. 03

    Say what's broken

Every deal ships with the reason you might not want it. If we can't find a reason to buy, it doesn't run.

FAQ

Questions worth asking

How much money do I need?

Most of what we run sits between $4K and $100K, and a lot of it is closer to the bottom of that range than the top. Some sellers will take payments rather than a lump sum.

Do I need to code?

No. A good chunk of what we run is content, ecommerce or newsletters with no code in them at all. The software deals normally come with a handover from whoever built it.

How often does it arrive?

Every other Tuesday at 7am ET. Three deals free, six a month on Pro. Two emails a month and nothing else.

Is it actually free?

Yes. The marketplace sheet stays free. Pro is $100 a month and adds the off-market deals, which is the part that costs us real work to find.

Do you take a cut?

No. No referral fees, no paid placements, no brokering. Subscriptions are the entire business, which is what lets us tell you when a deal is bad.

Can I sell mine through you?

Send it over. We run what we'd buy ourselves, which means we say no a lot.

Somebody is selling your next project.

They just haven't met you yet. Next issue goes out Tuesday, 7am ET.
